Was 2012 a good F1 season?
In the World Constructors’ Championship, Red Bull Racing secured their third consecutive title when Sebastian Vettel finished second at the United States Grand Prix. In addition to seeing seven different drivers win the first seven races, the 2012 season broke several records. Sebastian Vettel became a three-time World Champion with Red Bull Racing. Fernando Alonso finished second in the World Drivers’ Championship, three points behind Vettel. Kimi Räikkönen – seen here at the 2010 Rallye Deutschland – finished the season in third place, driving for Lotus F1.
Why did Alonso lose in 2012?
Unfortunate incidents led to him losing points which ended up losing the title to Vettel’s Red Bull. However, the title charge was helped by the issues Red Bull/Mclaren had in middle part of the season, which led to Alonso having a sustainable lead entering the summer break which he didn’t manage to keep. Winless year and departure from Red Bull Webber left the sport and was replaced by Daniel Ricciardo, who was promoted from Toro Rosso. Vettel struggled with reliability issues throughout winter testing, which forced him to retire at the opening Australian Grand Prix.
