What do Italians call Prosecco?
In Italian, Prosecco is known as a Spumante wine, which means sparkling, compared to a Frizante which is a semi-sparkling, or a Tranquilo which is a still wine. In addition to its sparkle, there’s another element that makes a Prosecco a Prosecco, and that’s the grape that’s used. When deciding between the two, if you are not restricted by budget, it is worth trying both to see which you prefer as, although prosecco has been labelled ‘the poor mans champagne’, it is really an entirely different drink.While Prosecco is certainly cheaper than Champagne, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s of a lower quality. The different production methods and the smaller producing region are just two of the reasons why Champagne is more expensive than Prosecco.
