Does Ferrari still use Pininfarina?
Even though none of Ferrari’s current production cars are Pininfarina designed, the two Italian companies may still collaborate in the future. The Ferrari Design Center continues to work with Pininfarina on special projects, a Ferrari spokesperson said in an email to Road & Track. Back in 2013, Ferrari made the decision to split with longtime external design firm Pininfarina. The move was surprising, given the decades of collaboration and legendary products from the brands. In the years since, Ferrari has grown its own design center, Centro Stile, into a hub for the brand. While few people know what really goes on behind the scenes, the most straightforward explanation is that Ferrari stopped using Pininfarina because its own in-house design studio, Centro Stile Ferrari, rendered Pininfarina’s services surplus to requirement.Pininfarina proposed a design for the LaFerrari but Ferrari said they designed the car in house. Pininfarina’s name doesn’t appear on the car anywhere and they did not consult or provide input into the design of the LaFerrari.
Was Lamborghini rejected by Ferrari?
Accounts vary on how this meeting transpired, but it’s believed that Lamborghini visited Ferrari’s factory to share his concerns. Enzo Ferrari, however, dismissed Lamborghini’s suggestions, reportedly retorting, You are a tractor driver, you are a farmer. Lamborghini thought Ferrari’s cars were good, but too noisy and rough to be proper road cars. He categorized them as repurposed track cars with poorly built interiors.
