Do all cars have a CV axle?
Rear wheel drive vehicles generally do not have CV axles because there is no driving force to be applied to those wheels. Driving your car until your CV fails isn’t sensible. If you have a leaky boot you may be able to get away with just having a new boot and some maintenance of the joint rather then replacing the joint, so it’s worth dealing with that early. If your joint is going to fail you gain nothing by waiting to fix it.Failing CV joints pose a serious risk so be sure to get your car into your auto shop as soon as possible. If there is only a small crack in the outer CV joint, your mechanic may be able to simply replace the CV boot and repack the grease, but for any major damage, an entirely new joint is necessary.
