What is the Targa Florio 2025 in English?

The 2025 edition of the Targa Florio Classic will take place from October 16–19, continuing the beloved tradition of celebrating automotive heritage on Sicily’s legendary mountain roads. This isn’t the high-speed Rally Targa Florio held each spring, but the autumn counterpart, the Targa Florio Classic. The Targa Florio was an open road endurance sports car race held high in the mountains of Sicily near Palermo. It was established in 1906 and it was also part of the World Sportscar Championship between 1955 and 1973.After 1973, it was a national sports car event until it was discontinued in 1977 due to safety concerns. It has since been run as Targa Florio Rally, a rallying event, and is part of the Italian Rally Championship.

Why is it called Targa Florio?

The Targa saw the light of day in 1906 and got its name from its founder Vincenzo Florio, a proud Sicilian who wanted to create a race on his native island. The name was inspired by the legendary Sicilian road race, the Targa Florio. The Italian word Targa means ‘plaque’ or ‘plate’ in English. The Carrera name is these days synonymous with the 911 model range.
